West Elk Mountain Rescue exists to provide back country search and rescue in the remote western section of Gunnison County. The all-volunteer team also provides backup assistance to the Black Canyon National Park and adjoining county SAR teams. We work under the jurisdiction and with the authority of  the Gunnison County Sheriff’s Office as a 501(c)(3) organization.
